Now as I am back home and coming down from my 'inspirational high' I realize that much of the information presented probably won't transform churches, communities, or even individual lives. For the most part the church is so firmly rooted in tradition, and the attitudes and egos of its people, that any real change may be next to impossible. But I can't help but wonder 'what if?'
What if the church intentionally operated based solely on Christlike principles? What if we spent more time on praying rather than politics? What if we focused more on saving souls than saving face? What if we spent more time seeking to be righteous and less on just wanting to be right? And what if churches focused on working together to build up the Kingdom of God and less on competing with each other for the largest congregation, the biggest building, and the largest offerings. What if the church did the work of the church?
In many communities there are church buildings on almost every corner, yet between those buildings lie, poverty, substance abuse, violence, and neglect especially of our youth and seniors. The truth of the matter is that nothing can be accomplished by a building. We, as professed Christians, are the church. And it is our duty to, both individually and collectively, do the work of the church. What if the church did the work of the church? The better questions may be "What if I... ?"
