Trump is president
of all Americans
Editor, Times-Dispatch:
I am concerned about the direction that the president is taking this country. Donald Trump may have forgotten (or may not be aware) that he is president of the United States of America. With the exception of the Native Americans, the U.S. is a diverse land of immigrants and he is the president of all of these people. His advisers do not reflect this diversity.
He is the president of the struggling middle-class family in the Heartland and the welfare recipient in Appalachia. He is president of the young black man attending college as well as the unarmed one gunned down by the police. He is the president of the Muslim imam who teaches the Quran as well as the evangelical pastor who teaches the Bible.
He is the president of the corporate executive with an excellent, private health care plan as well as the retired educator who depends on the Affordable Care Act to lower her health care insurance premiums. He is the president of the white man or woman convicted of drug possession and given probation and of the black man or woman imprisoned for the exact same crime. And he is the president of immigrants who live in this country, legally or illegally, and work hard every day to provide a better life for their families.
But right now, Trump is not considering the needs of this diverse land. Instead of holding rallies for his supporters, he should hold town meetings for those voices he has not heard. We, the people, are out there. We have something to say and we want to be heard.

Even though it said, in essence, what I intended, I believe that it lacked the punch of an open letter. So I have included the original letter here.
An Open Letter to Donald Trump
Dear Mr. President,
I am writing to you as a citizen of this country. Frankly, I am concerned about the direction that you are leading the country. And I believe that you may have forgotten or not be aware of certain important issues. You are President of the United States of America. With the exception of the Native Americans, the USA is a diverse land of immigrants. This means that you are the President for all of these people. And your advisors should reflect this diversity.
You are the President of the struggling middle class family in the heartlands, and the welfare recipient in Appalachia. You are the President of the young Black man attending college as well as the unarmed one gunned down by the police. You are the President of Muslim Iman that teaches the Koran, as well as the Evangelical Pastor that teaches the Bible.
You are the President of the corporate executive with an excellent, private healthcare plan as well as the retired educator who depends on the Affordable Healthcare Act to lower her insurance premiums. You are the president of the white man or woman convicted of drug possession and given probation and of the Black man or woman imprisoned for the exact same crime. And you are the President of those immigrants that live in this country, legally or illegally, that work hard every day to provide a better life for their families.
But right now, you are not considering the needs of this diverse land. Instead of holding a rally for your supporters, try holding a town meeting for those voices you have not heard. We are out there and we want to be heard.
Sincerely,
Waltena Downs Pride
I have sent the original letter to the White House. Will he see it, i don't know. But I do know that I have followed my heart and spoken up. We can no longer be silent.
It's time to do what Micah 7:7 says; Look to the Lord - Pray, Wait for the God of our salvation - actively serve, not passively wait, Know that God will hear our prayer - put confidence in God's power over all mankind.
