Yup. These are some of the same people who preach about this country being founded on Christian principles, who have remained silent. Now. I'm not talking about all evangelical Christians, I'm sure that some of them are very fine people (pun intended). I'm talking about the religious leaders who show up on t.v. and radio and tell us that Trump was sent by God. I'm talking about the religious leaders who are so tickled pink to have access to the president and the White House, that they have checked their faith at the door. Evangelical Christian leaders and religious advisors, I am calling you out.
Let's go to the word. Proverbs 17: 27-28 (NIV) reads;
27 The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
28 Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues.
I believe that the Word speaks for itself. Shouldn't one of you, men and women of God stand up and tell Trump that he is wrong. Shouldn't you say that deciding and saying that one group of people is better than another goes against Christian principles. Do any of you actually read and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ?
Let's look at another text, Matthew 25:34-40 (NIV) reads;
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Hmm. Sounds like the way we treat others, is how we treat Jesus. So I guess that means that we probably should welcome the strangers (verse 35) to our shores and not put up walls or make laws to keep them out. Maybe the hungry (verse 35) should be able to not just have a meal at school but their parents should have a living wage. Maybe the sick (verse 36) should have healthcare that is affordable and located in their communities.
So evangelical Christian leaders and advisors, which one of you will stand up and tell Donald Trump and the world that you stand up for right and will no longer be silent. Which of you will declare that even though we believe in the freedom of speech, that there are certain things that the leader of the free world should not do or say. What I am really asking is, which of you is willing to live your faith and truly be Christ like?The world is waiting and so am I.
