I am grateful to be living in the 20th and 21st Centuries. There have been so many changes during these times. When I look at my life and think about how different it would have been years ago, I realize how truly blessed I am. One hundred fifty years ago, with my health conditions I probably wouldn't have lived to be my age. One hundred years ago, probably the same fate. Even if I was my age 50 years ago, I would probably be confined to a facility, unable to care for myself or walk. But at my age in 2018, I am alive and active.
Because I was born when I was, I was able to go to any college I chose and my education was only limited by my desire and not by the color of my skin. I could go on to teach in a public school, retire, and receive a pension. With my healthcare insurance, even though it's expensive, I can afford to receive the life saving and life enhancing treatments that I need. These are not perfect times, but when I look back over the years I realize that for me, these are the best of times. And I am blessed.
